Año dos mil quince, presente lo tengo yo.
The Office of the Dean of Students and Multicultural Affairs [MA] were recently notified of our selection to participate in the Mexican Consulate’s Institute of Mexicans Abroad [IME] Fellowship Program. The program is designed to assist Latino students of Mexican origin. We are currently working on the criteria and a selection process to award students some funding to help alleviate some of the financial barriers that impede students from accessing and pursuing their postsecondary education.
Dr. Herbert King, Dean of Students; Santos Martínez, Director of Multicultural Affairs; and Eduardo Gutíerrez, Admissions Counselor, Chicano/Latino Liaison, worked on preparing the proposal. We recently attended an awards ceremony on November 20th at Augsburg College which was sponsored by the Mexican Consulate to recognize the 11 higher education institutions and 3 non-profit organizations 2015-2016 program recipients.
Through the years, Metropolitan State University has hosted a number of events with a focus on Latinos – cultural activities, community forums, speaker presentations and even hosted the Third Annual Educational Summit of the Minnesota Network of Latinos in Higher Education Conference. Metropolitan State University continues its efforts to increase the enrollment of Latino students. For example, from FY 2010 to FY 2015, combined fall and spring enrollments of Latino students increased from 285 to 436, or 53 %. For Fall 2015, 225 Latino students are enrolled, and 60 of them are new, first-time students to the university.
Dr. King, Santos Martínez and Eduardo Gutíerrez greatly appreciate the support of Ginny Arthur, Provost and Executive Vice President, in this endeavor.
Y aquí se acaba el anuncio de éste programa especial.
Congratulations! Felicitaciones! Congratulations
